This year at Maker Faire Galicia we want to resalt the importance of the Maker movement for the growth of Industry 4.0. So, within the Professional Conference on Friday, November 23, we’ll have a space for makers with projects of a higher degree of innovation.

This 10 finalist projects will be exposed to the public throughout the Professional Day and will be presented on the main stage through the formula known as “elevator pitch”, which refers to the ability to condense a message to get someone’s attention in just few seconds or minutes, emulating the time you would have to present your project or idea in an elevator trip to a possible investor.

The selected makers will have 5 exact minutes of available time, 3 for the presentation and 2 for questions by the members of the jury. The objective is to awaken the curiosity of the specialized public that comes to the day and from which future opportunities may arise. This jury of experts, chaired by Inés Lusquiños, responsible for communication of Startup Galicia, will evaluate the projects choosing the three best, which will be awarded with a trophy and awards of € 1000, € 500 and € 250.

Here it is the list of the 10 finalist projects:

Makers are characterized by being people with a highly creativity and a great ability to solve problems. However, when they want to focus their projects on the market or collaborate with a company, they often encounter problems because they do not have the tools or the adequate help to carry them out.

That’s why, this year during the professional day, a talk will be held where several accelerators will give their point of view about the ecosystem maker and its collaboration with the industry, telling us how they can act as a bridge between both worlds.

In this talk we will have Jorge Gómara, Head of Business Factory Auto, Gerard Gracia, Head of Digital Garage in Estrella Galicia and Nicolás Troncoso, Innovation Director of Kaleido. Inés Lusquiños, Head of Communication of Startup Galicia will moderate this table that promises to be very productive.

This year we will have in the professional day a talk about technological applications in the industry 4.0.

In recent years we are experiencing a technological revolution that is totally changing the way things are done, known as Industry 4.0. Within this revolution, there are several technologies that are its visible head such as 3D printing, artificial intelligence or Big Data. However, the applications of these technologies in the industry are still in an initial phase.

In order to see more possibilities of these technologies we will have Zoe Powell, textile designer specializing in the creation of biomaterials and member of Materiom, Gianluca Pugliese, Wasp company, who created a 3D printer capable of printing houses for less than 1000 euros, and Juan Marchan from Safran Group , who will talk about how we can predict mechanical failure through neural networks.

Regemat is the new project of BRECA Health Care for the development of bioprinting, a new discipline dedicated to 3D tissue printing.

Since 2011, they have worked with research centers in more than 20 countries, specializing in different applications, from the regeneration of cartilage and skin, to the creation of live models for drug development. They are the first Spaniards specialized in this field.

José Manuel Baena, CEO of the firm BRECA Health Care, assures that the goal is to move from the 2D cultivation phase to the 3D one. “This is a new sector that is evolving very fast. Biomaterials are the future of regenerative medicine”, he says.

Regemat participates this year in the Professional Day of Maker Faire Galicia, where Manuel Figueruela García and Miguel Fernández Doblas will give a talk based on bioprinting. They will be accompanied by Carmen Álvarez, a graduate and PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Santiago de Compostela, an institution that has one of 3D printers of Regemat. That day we’ll be able to see the printer working.

If you like experimentation with new materials do not miss the workshops that will be carried out by the Materiom team, composed on this occasion by Zoe and Lara, who will come exclusively from London and Barcelona respectively to share their knowledge.

Materiom is an international digital platform that aims to allow everyone, everywhere, to participate in the next generation of materials. Formed by a global community, Materiom has the mission of sharing the “Nature Recipe Book” in an Open Source way: a broad range of materials that use, to a large extent, accessible and natural ingredients, such as beet, sage , turmeric, agar agar, algae or coffee beans used.

The simplicity and accessibility of their recipes allows anyone to create plastics and compounds from their own kitchen, FabLab or Makerspace and process them to their liking and necessity. The familiarization with them invites to discover the properties and possibilities of these materials, as well as to promote their use in new applications. The creativity focused on them will be a source of generation of new designs and products that are part of a system of circular economies.

Its mission is to promote the creation, experimentation, dissemination and use of nutritious and non-wasteful materials. Their team and community of designers, scientists, engineers and artists develop, test and adapt recipes locally. Supported by organizations and foundations such as EllenMcArthur Foundation, IDEO and Atlas of the Future, Materiom visualizes a world in which plastics supply life systems instead of finish them.

The Materiom team will offer us two workshops of 2 hours each where you can become makers of materials.

This year for the first time in Maker Faire Galicia, we will have a Hebocon. But … Do you know what it is?

The term Hebocon comes from the Japanese word Heboi, which is used to define something that technically has some problem or low quality. These robots are usually made with recycled material such as engines, plastics or scrap.

The first Hebocon was played in Japan in 2014 and basically it is a competition of absurd robots that compete for pairs to see which of the two remains in a certain space, like a sumo fight.

The interesting thing about the Hebocon is that anyone can participate, even without having any technical knowledge. The perfect activity to bring technology to all kinds of audiences.

The first Hebocon of Maker Faire Galicia will be carried out by Luis Díaz and Julián Caro Linares. It will be focused on families, which will be able to develop their robot during the fair or they can bring it from home.

We don’t know what will come out of here, but one thing is for sure, the participants will have a great time. XD
