In addition, there will be an exhibition space in which attendees can learn first-hand examples of the most innovative Galician makers. The act will conclude with an awards ceremony for the most innovative project exhibited during that day.
Companies interested in attending this day can register through a form enabled on our website.
We aim to be a meeting point between the makers and the most advanced industry, favoring the emergence of synergies that can lead to a fluid collaboration between these two complementary worlds. The companies will be able to know the most innovative technological projects carried out by makers and the makers will have a great opportunity to get potential partners.
Programme:
Richard Stallman is one of the most significant figures of the worldwide free software movement. He’s known for creating in 1983 the GNU operating system, currently part of GNU / Linux, the first alternative to the main proprietary operating systems: Windows and MacOS. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Grace Hopper Award given by the Association for Computing Machinery by Emacs. With the creation of the GNU operating system, he laid the foundations of the free software movement, where everyone is free to copy, distribute and change the system. Currently the GNU / Linux system is used by tens of millions of computers. Through its foundation Free Software Foundation, Stallman seeks to raise awareness in society, and especially governments, to use free software both in institutions and public schools.
Richard Stallman’s lecture will be one of the highlights of this third edition of Maker Faire Galicia, which will also feature numerous entertainment activities aimed at all audiences and disciplines: innovation and creativity workshops, drone championships, robotics , interactive performances and much more.

The third edition of the Galicia Maker Faire is taking place on November 24th, 25th and 26th. This year the Gaiás Centre Museum of the City of Culture of Galicia, in Santiago de Compostela, is hosting the event.
Maker Faire is the largest fair of inventors in the world, a showcase of creativity and ingenuity, designed for all audiences and disciplines: gastronomy, robotics, mechanics, science, urban art, music, electronics, crafts, etc. A place to share knowledge, discover fascinating projects and make professional contacts.
This year the event will celebrate its third edition consolidating its position as the most important of the Maker Faires of the country, both in number of makers and attendees. Besides, the Galicia Maker Faire ranks among the five with most visitors in Europe, after major cities such as Rome and Paris.
During the 2015 and 2016 editions, more than 24,000 people attended and more than 300 makers exhibited their projects. The event works as a meeting point for the best creators of the State and helps to promote Galicia as one of the most innovative places of Spain.
In addition to the change of location, the 2017 edition adds one more day of programming, on Friday, November 24th. That day will be focused on the professional sector and the Industry 4.0, favouring the contact between exhibitors and potential sponsors for their projects. The representatives of First Build, General Electric and other important companies of the sector will attend the Faire, and makers will be able to show them their ideas and projects. The weekend of the 25th and 26th, the event will remain open to the public as in previous years.
One of the objectives of the 2017 edition is to go one step further in the internationalization of the event. That is why world-renown speakers and exhibitors will be present. One of the highlights of the Faire is the presence of Richard Stallman, who will give a talk on Sunday.
With the dissemination of projects through the Maker Movement, the Galicia Maker Faire seeks to increase the concern with innovation, while generating a gathering place for the transmission of knowledge between different generations.
